2020-07-28 – Letter to Members

 

Dear TRC Members   

  

On behalf of the Toronto Railway Club, I hope that you, your teams and your families are doing well.  As we continue to adjust our lives with the realities of COVID-19, the full impact of this pandemic continues to become more apparent.   

Up to this point, at the Toronto Railway Club, we have taken a cautious yet optimistic approach.  With safety as our top priority, we cancelled events scheduled in March, May and July and postponed the golf tournament scheduled for June, however we continued to plan for the remaining 2020 events in hopes of positive signs of change and the return of some normalcy. 

Now in  July, we  must take another realistic review of the remainder of the Toronto Railway Club’s  2020 events.  Since the beginning of the pandemic, the TRC Executive team has closely followed the progress and updates from government officials and health organizations.  Although the declining number of new cases in Ontario is encouraging, social and physical distancing remain a key challenge for the size of TRC events.    

 

As the TRC is not unique in this situation, we have reached out to our partners and similar organizations in the industry in hopes of developing a strategy on how to best move forward.  Unfortunately, everyone is facing the same challenges and constraints with respect to having to put measures in place to ensure physical distancing, disinfection of venues and provisions of personal protective equipment.  

 

The TRC prides itself on  the networking opportunities offered to each of its members and guests at  these events. Unfortunately, with COVID 19, the requirements needed to ensure the health and safety of the public significantly impacts the overall networking objective of our events. 

 

For these reasons, the Toronto Railway Club Board of Directors has come to the  conclusion that in an effort to ensure everyone’s safety, we must make the difficult decision to cancel all of the remaining events planned for 2020, up to December 31, 2020.   

 

We know how difficult these times have been and continue to be for many of us however, I want to assure you that together we will prevail, please keep safe and continue to practice social and physical distancing.
